Adult Literacy Recognition Awards Criteria
All learner entrants must be residents of Quebec
- Learners must be engaged in English-language adult literacy training
- Canadian learners cannot have successfully completed high school
- Learners from other countries cannot have read or written well in their mother tongue before enrolling in an adult literacy program. (submissions from ESL learners who are literate in their mother tongue are not admissible)
- Teachers/tutors must be working at the adult basic level in English-language adult literacy training. (submissions from teachers/tutors working with ESL students literate in their mother tongue are not admissible)
LEARNERS:
- Tell us: How has learning to read and write or improving your reading and writing changed your life? What can you do now that you could not do before?
- The entry can be an essay/poem/comic strip/any form of communication that involves some writing.
- If you cannot write this alone, a teacher or tutor may write your words for you. Words and any drawings must be your own.
- Length: maximum two (2) pages
TEACHER/TUTORS:
- Nominees must have demonstrated creative and innovative ways of engaging adult students in learning.
- Individuals can be nominated by students or colleagues.
- Examples of strategies/methods, with explanation of their innovative nature, must be included, with samples of student work.
- Length: Description maximum two (2) pages, examples maximum six (6) pages
All submissions will become the property of the sponsor group. We request permission to print all submissions. Non-winning entrants can ask to remain anonymous. We reserve the right to withhold any of the awards if no entry meets the criteria of a particular category.
