2007 Keynote Speaker : Dorothy Silver
Dorothy Silver has had many significant experiences in her life as a wife, a mother, a daughter, an aunt, a sister, a grandmother and a friend. Her life took a turn in 1987 when she discovered Laubach Literacy, the one-on-one, confidential, volunteer, tutoring that finally taught her to read after a struggle of 47 years. From this point she began a new journey that has taken her to every corner of Canada, from sea to sea to sea, as a literacy student and as Canada's foremost learner ambassador.
As a volunteer for local, provincial and now the national association, Laubach Literacy of Canada, Dorothy Silver wrote the book "Living on a Shoestring Budget" as her gift to learners. Modeled from her workshop of the same name, this book outlines ways to change a lifestyle of spending, to one of spending less while having more. Dorothy knows better than anyone that being unable to read limits your chances of earning a good income.
