LVQ Membership Categories

Groups wishing to join Literacy Volunteers of Quebec may apply to become a full, associate, or affiliate member.

Full members are:
  • Not-for-profit
  • Community-based
  • Incorporated under the laws of the Province of Quebec
  • Provide literacy services to the English-speaking population of Quebec over the age of 16
  • Volunteer-based
  • Funded under PACTE
Note: Only full members are entitled to vote at meetings.

Associate members are:
  • Not-for-profit
  • Community-based
  • Provide literacy services to the English-speaking population of Quebec over the age of 16
  • Volunteer-based

An Affiliate members are:
  • Individuals who are involved in literacy, or who are interested in literacy, or
  • An organization that works in literacy, or is interested in literacy.

Benefits and responsibilities

What are member privileges?

A full member of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec:

a. is entitled to attend all annual meetings, general meetings and special meetings of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec, and
b. is entitled to vote on all matters of business at Literacy Volunteers of Quebec meetings, and
c. has other privileges and responsibilities described in the bylaws and in related policies passed by the board of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec.

An associate member of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec:

a. is entitled to attend all annual meetings, general meetings and special meetings of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec, and
b. has other privileges and responsibilities described in the bylaws and in related policies passed by the board of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec.

An affiliate member of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec:

a. may be invited to attend all annual meetings, general meetings and special meetings of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec, and
b. has other privileges and responsibilities described in these bylaws and in related policies passed by the board of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec.

What are member responsibilities?

A member of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec is responsible to:

a. support the purpose and core values of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec, and
b. pay Literacy Volunteers of Quebec annual membership fees, and
c. abide by the by-laws and policies of Literacy Volunteers of Quebec.

Membership application

An organization wishing to become a full or associate member must complete and submit an application form. The Membership Committee shall consider the application for membership once it has been received by Literacy Volunteers of Quebec and make a recommendation to the Board of Directors. The Applicant shall be informed in writing of the Board's decision.
