Learning Disabilities Conference:

LVQ is pleased to welcome Dee McRae and Betsy Alkenbrack, two literacy practitioners from British Columbia. Dee and Betsy will present the Whole Life and Learning Disabilities in an Adult Literacy Setting approach developed by Literacy B.C. Plenty of hands-on activities and small group discussions. Future of Literacy in Canada’s major cities:

According to a report by the Canadian Council on Learning, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Toronto will experience significant, above-average growth in the number of adults with low literacy in the coming decades. To read the report, click here.

TD launches new fund to advance financial literacy:

TD Financial Literacy Grant Fund calls for applications from community groups for millions in grants... Today, TD Bank Financial Group and Social and Enterprise Development Innovations (SEDI), read on...(link to news and events page with the rest of this text) a charitable organization that helps low-income Canadians gain financial independence, officially launched the TD Financial Literacy Grant Fund with the first call for applications for funding. The deadline for applications is July 31, 2010. The first of its kind in Canada, the $11 million Fund was created by SEDI and TD from the funding provided by TD earlier this year. The Quebec Peter Gzowski Invitational Golf Tournament - September 23, 2010. QELA is proud to be hosting the PGI in its 25th year in Canada and 10th year in Quebec. We’ve been busy promoting this event to businesses and the media, which will increase the visibility and the importance of addressing the issues caused by the shortage of literacy and essential skills in the community and in the workplace.

Quebec City Reading Council celebrates Quebec Adult Learner’s Week

Students at the QCRC celebrated the Semaine québecoise des adultes en formation by participating in a Karaoke Idol contest. They also were challenged to create an original work of art (collage, photo, drawing) that demonstrates the benefits of being an adult learner.
